ABOUT Fuyutsuki / 01—06

01First appearance and background

Fuyutsuki is already present in Miyuki Tonogaya’s original Twitter comic dated August 3, 2018, where Himuro addresses her by name. Her own manga debut and the work’s origin are therefore both 2018; the first collected volume followed on July 22, 2019. She is a human woman working alongside Himuro, a descendant of the snow woman. The anime opens differently, with their first day at work: she helps the nervous, icebound Himuro on her commute before discovering that they are colleagues. Their relationship grows from that ordinary working life.

02Personality and appeal

Mild early-manga spoilers: Himuro loves flowers but keeps damaging them with frost. Fuyutsuki researches a practical answer and brings protective straw for the plants. Even her unusual commute with the bundle is carefully considered: she avoids the crowded rush. The scene gives her kindness a specific, slightly eccentric form. Her restrained face does not prevent her from paying attention. The volume 2 synopsis also describes her being moved by unexpected sides of Himuro, so the gradual change between them involves her own feelings as well as his affection.

03Story journey

Spoilers for anime episodes 2, 7 and 12: before the Okinawa training trip, Fuyutsuki makes an item to help Himuro manage his fear of causing a blizzard. At the office Halloween contest, she suggests a way forward when Katori forgets his costume. Later, she and Himuro travel to present their joint project successfully. These episodes give her practical things to do within the romance: she prepares, proposes solutions and shares responsibility for work, rather than merely waiting for someone else to approach her.

04Relationships

Spoilers for manga volumes 7, 11 and 12: Fuyutsuki and Komori plan a hot-spring trip and invite Himuro and Saejima, showing friendships beyond the central pair. In volume 11, Fuyutsuki visits Himuro’s grandmother and is fascinated to meet an actual snow woman. Volume 12 brings an invitation from his sister Yukimin to help clean the family’s former Kyoto home. Her connections expand from neighboring desks to friends and family. Those occasions give the developing relationship different settings without reducing everyone around her to a romantic obstacle.

05Versions and visual identity

Yui Ishikawa voices Fuyutsuki in the 2023 anime, which began advance streaming on January 3 and Japanese TV broadcasting on January 4. The selected official Fashion 1 office design has wavy brown hair just past the shoulders, a soft fringe and brown-gray eyes. An ivory blazer and pale sage top accompany burnt-orange ankle trousers and mustard pumps. Another official office look pairs a striped top with light-green trousers, giving her everyday wardrobe a different soft palette. 06Fan interpretations

A creation detail: in a 2018 interview, Tonogaya said the original comic was intended to offer her Twitter readers some relief from summer heat. The ice consequently becomes both a visual joke and an everyday difficulty people can help each other manage. Fan interpretation: Fuyutsuki’s appeal can be read as care turned into a workable action. She listens, considers and tries something, while remaining capable of being surprised herself.
