ABOUT Mahiro Oyama / 01—06

01First appearance and background

Mahiro Oyama is the protagonist of Nekotofu’s manga Onimai: I’m Now Your Sister! The original manga has been published since 2017, and the television anime aired in 2023. The character was originally male and took on the appearance of a girl because of his younger sister’s experimental drug; this profile must retain that premise.

02Personality and appeal

At first, Mahiro is used to staying indoors, panics easily, and likes to put on a brave face. The new routine forces Mahiro to confront socializing, studying, and daily habits; the comedy comes from the process of adapting, rather than treating the bodily change as a mere change of clothes.

03Story journey

With Mihari’s care, Mahiro gradually begins going out and makes friends of a similar age. The work centers on restoring a daily routine and building friendships; this page uses everyday clothing and school interactions and does not depict scenes involving bodily privacy.

04Relationships

Mihari Oyama is Mahiro’s younger sister, while Kaede Hozuki, Momiji Hozuki, and others become part of the new circle of friends. Mahiro’s relationships with these characters must not be arbitrarily rewritten as different family ties or marriages because of the change in appearance.

05Versions and visual identity

Short silvery-white hair, a stray lock of hair, and loose everyday clothes are common identifying features. Portraits show Mahiro lounging at home, suddenly panicking, and gradually smiling with relief; a live-action style is only a fan interpretation of the character’s current appearance.

06Fan interpretations

Fan interpretation: The bodily change is only the story’s starting point; what continues to change is Mahiro’s willingness to reconnect with the outside world. This is a reading of the theme of growth, not an assignment of an identity label that the original work does not explicitly establish.
