ABOUT Urd / 01—0601First appearance and background
Urd is a goddess in Oh My Goddess! who appears in the early manga’s collected volume 2, published in 1990. The series beginning serialization in 1988 is separate information from the publication year of the volume in which she appears; the 1993 OVA and the television anime are later versions.
02Personality and appeal
She likes spurring others to act and is especially keen on matchmaking, though her methods are sometimes too bold. She enjoys excitement while also caring for her younger sisters; mischief alone does not explain all her motives.
03Story journey
After entering Keiichi Morisato and Belldandy’s lives, she repeatedly turns their once-quiet days into a series of surprises. Storylines involving her divine and demonic background add to her character’s internal conflicts, so her entire story cannot be summed up as that of a love adviser.
04Relationships
Belldandy and Skuld are her younger sisters, Keiichi Morisato is an important romantic partner for Belldandy, and Hild is her mother. Urd and Belldandy have different mothers, so the three sisters should not be described as having entirely identical origins.
05Versions and visual identity
Silver-white curls, a darker complexion, and divine markings on her face are identifying features. Her appearance varies across the manga, OVA, and television versions; this page uses a fully covering purple gown while retaining her mature, teasing expression.
06Fan interpretations
A fan observation: if daily life gets too quiet, Urd will often take it upon herself to move things along. The way her matchmaking so often creates new trouble is an important source of the work’s light-comedy rhythm.
