ABOUT Ami Tsuruga / 01—0601First appearance and background
Ami appears in chapter 1, “Familia,” published when the manga launched on February 17, 2021. She is the high-ponytailed worker at the far left of its opening welcome. She lives at the seaside café with four coworkers who call themselves the late owner Sachiko’s family. When Sachiko’s grandson Hayato Kasukabe returns intending to demolish the café, their shared home faces an uncertain future.
02Personality and appeal
Ami’s energy often outruns her judgment. Open and exuberant, she gets carried away and earns scoldings from the others. Her karate-club training and wish to be a champion of justice give her antics a heroic flavor; she also likes high places. Her comedy comes from the gap between that enthusiasm and the care a situation actually needs.
03Story journey
Story spoilers: in anime episode 10, “Ouka and Kikka,” Ami approaches the person she thinks is Ouka with her usual playful familiarity, only to receive a cold response. Upset by this unexpected treatment, she goes crying to Hayato. The woman is actually Ouka’s younger twin, Kikka. Ami’s confusion introduces a family complication through a suddenly disrupted everyday interaction.
04Relationships
Shiragiku, Riho, Akane and Ouka share Ami’s workplace and home. Her protective ambitions include those familiar people: the official February 10, 2023 character-preview description has her introduce herself with a karate pose, launch a flying kick in café uniform, and promise to defend peace and the girls in the house. Familia gives her grand heroic dream an immediate, personal setting.
05Versions and visual identity
Ami originates in the 2021 manga and is voiced by Sayumi Suzushiro in the anime. The selected early first-season design has a dark blue high ponytail, green ribbon, reddish-purple eyes and white frilled headpiece. Her blue-and-white striped dress has a white apron, fastened white collar and small dark bow, completed by dark tights and closed shoes. The images on this page are AI-generated unofficial fan art based on this design.
06Fan interpretations
ORICON’s September 10, 2025 report placed Ami fifth in Weekly Shonen Magazine’s sixth heroine popularity poll, a result from that particular reader event. Fan interpretation: her wish to protect everyone coexists with being hurt when a familiar person seems suddenly cold. That combination can make her exaggerated heroics feel more personal.
