ABOUT Nico Wakatsuki / 01—06

01First appearance and background

Nico appears in chapter 1, “The Witch Returns,” of Kenta Shinohara’s WITCH WATCH. The chapter launched in Weekly Shonen Jump’s 2021 No. 10 issue, released on February 8; Shueisha’s own chapter guide explicitly describes her reunion with Morihito and the ensuing magical mishap. Her manga debut is therefore 2021, before the 2025 television adaptation. Returning from training, she anticipates time with her childhood friend, while his new responsibility is to protect her from a foretold disaster.

02Personality and appeal

Mild early-manga spoilers: Nico hopes to become a witch who can help others, although praise quickly goes to her head. In chapter 1, a spell puts her in danger; chapter 5 brings a flying activity with her classmates. Magic opens unexpected possibilities in an ordinary school day and makes everyone improvise. Her comedy begins with a recognizable impulse: she is eager to put an ability to use before every consequence has become clear.

03Story journey

Anime episode 6 spoilers: Morihito’s growing popularity with other girls makes Nico anxious. Kanshi has noticed her feelings, but Morihito remains oblivious. Before a school excursion, Nico learns of a tree on Mount Futatsu said to bring together a boy and girl who arrange to have lunch beneath it. Kanshi urges her to confess. The situation gives her an ordinary school-life difficulty: knowing magic does not make expressing a crush simple. This is the anime’s sixth episode, not manga chapter 6.

04Relationships

Nico and Morihito are both childhood friends and a witch–familiar pair. She hopes for romance, while he treats her protection as a serious duty, leaving their priorities comically out of step at the beginning. Her mother, Ibuki Wakatsuki, can foresee the future; a warning of disaster within a year leads her to entrust Nico’s safety to Morihito. Classmates Kara Minami and Kukumi Ureshino give Nico friendships beyond the household. Their invitation to a family restaurant in manga chapter 4 introduces that everyday social circle.

05Versions and visual identity

The manga began in 2021, followed by the television anime in April 2025; Rina Kawaguchi voices Nico in Japanese. This profile uses her early-anime high-school appearance: long peach-orange hair with pink tips, a curved cowlick and violet eyes. The official standing illustration pairs a loose rust-red dress and elbow-length sleeves with a brown belt, a wand at the hip and dark flats. A narrow black choker carries a small round pendant. The design belongs to her teenage school-life setting. Page illustrations are unofficial AI-generated fan art based on the anime design.

06Fan interpretations

An original fan-style reading: Nico’s spells make the gap between wanting to help and actually helping visible. Her friends become involved in the consequences, so the comedy can be read as a group learning how to cooperate, alongside the failed spells. This is an interpretation offered here, not a declared authorial theme or a claim about fan consensus. One documented curiosity connects her to the anime’s music: Shinohara wrote “Kokoro Kororon,” a short story about Nico and Morihito’s childhood memories, which became the basis for YOASOBI’s opening song “Watch me!”
