ABOUT Kiyoko Shimizu / 01—0601First appearance and background
Kiyoko Shimizu is the manager of the Karasuno High School boys’ volleyball team in Haruichi Furudate’s Haikyu!!. The manga has been serialized since 2012, and the television anime has aired since 2014; her significance lies in the support work behind training and matches.
02Personality and appeal
She speaks little and does not put all her concern into words, usually expressing her sense of responsibility through advance preparation and practical action. Her quietness does not mean indifference to the team; rather, it reflects her focus and reliability in handling tasks.
03Story journey
She handles training and match-related matters for the team and helps find a successor as manager. The work shows viewers the preparation, legwork, and passing on of responsibilities beyond the matches: a manager’s role is not limited to cheering from the sidelines.
04Relationships
Hitoka Yachi is a junior manager whom she guides and helps grow. She and players such as Ryunosuke Tanaka and Yu Nishinoya are all part of the Karasuno team; this page focuses on their high school years and does not discuss relationships in the adulthood arc ahead of time.
05Versions and visual identity
Her dark, shoulder-length hair, glasses, and small mole near the corner of her mouth are distinguishing features. A quiet nod, an attentive look at the match schedule, and a rare smile suit her demeanor better than exaggerated girlish expressions.
06Fan interpretations
Fan interpretation: Kiyoko’s presence reminds readers that a team grows not only in moments when it scores, but also when someone takes care of the small tasks for everyone. This is an observation about the theme of teamwork.
