ABOUT Jiu Yue / 01—06

01First appearance and background

Jiu Yue is a central fox-spirit character in Yi Wang Kong Qi’s comic Fei Ren Zai and its animated adaptation. The comic began in 2015; the animation premiered on March 29, 2018. Those are separate publication milestones, rather than interchangeable character-debut dates. Her office-clerk job gives the supernatural ensemble a familiar point of entry: commuting, coworkers and the time left after work.

02Personality and appeal

Her comedy depends on being fallible rather than effortlessly mysterious. She complains, gets lazy and becomes visibly excited about her interests. Instant noodles and a shelf of figures turn an ancient fox spirit into a recognizable homebody. Her face and ears make everyday frustration, sleepiness, surprise and delight especially readable—useful reactions beyond a generic smiling portrait.

03Story journey

Fei Ren Zai is built around short everyday episodes, so her story is better understood as an accumulating routine than a combat-progression timeline. Shapeshifting and numerous tails can be inconvenient as well as useful. She continually negotiates the gap between fox-spirit habits and modern social expectations. A small practical problem, enlarged by supernatural abilities, often drives the joke.

04Relationships

Shi Yi Yue is her older brother, and Huang Er taught her shapeshifting when she was young. Daji’s title “Apo” identifies a respected fox elder, not a biological grandmother. Ao Lie, Xiao Yu and Xiao Tian belong to her circle of coworkers and friends. School-era crushes and misunderstandings should not be rewritten as an established marriage; familiarity and small frictions are the heart of these relationships.

05Versions and visual identity

White hair, fox ears and fluffy tails form her recognizable silhouette, usually paired with a white T-shirt and red shorts. Seasonal fur changes provide another comic device, so a change in color need not imply a separate character or identity. The portraits and figure concepts here are fan-made interpretations across media, preserving key traits without claiming to be official alternate costumes.

06Fan interpretations

One useful interpretation is that centuries of life do not grant immunity to office life or social awkwardness. That is a reading of the comedy, not a secret setting declared by the creator. Instead of inventing a conspiracy or assigning a permanent partner, connect her changing expressions to her hobbies, fox habits and coworkers. The familiar emotions explain much of her lasting appeal.
