ABOUT Ruri / 01—06

01First appearance and background

Ruri comes from Riichiro Inagaki and Boichi’s manga Dr. STONE and was already present in the Japanese third volume published in 2017. Kohaku’s older sister serves as Ishigami Village’s priestess and inherits its orally transmitted Hundred Tales. This profile follows her original portrayal in the early village arc.

02Personality and appeal

Ruri’s first impression is gentle and composed. She cares about her sister, while her responsibilities as priestess sometimes lead her to hold back her feelings. In published cast comments, Reina Ueda also described a playful side beneath that graceful bearing, adding warmth and variety to her quiet presence.

03Story journey

Early-story spoilers: Ruri’s long illness gives Senku and Chrome an urgent reason to develop medicine. Once it is completed, she regains her health. In anime episode 16, she recounts the hundredth tale, “Ishigami Senku,” connecting the village’s inherited stories with the past of the astronaut Byakuya Ishigami.

04Relationships

Kohaku’s determination to help her sister drives much of the village arc. Chrome, their childhood friend, collects materials in search of a way to treat Ruri. Senku brings scientific knowledge to those efforts, while the stories Ruri preserves offer him clues about the village’s origins.

05Versions and visual identity

The Dr. STONE manga began in 2017, followed by the television anime in 2019. Ruri’s anime design retains her long hair and knotted neck cord, with blonde hair and blue-green eyes; the manga reference shows her long dress. The AI-generated illustrations on this page are fan art, not official artwork.

06Fan interpretations

One reader interpretation connects Ruri’s preservation of oral stories with Senku’s rebuilding of scientific knowledge: both show how learning survives across generations. This is an interpretation of her role, rather than a definitive author statement. The series also retains a large recent audience: ABEMA reported manga circulation exceeding 20 million copies in June 2026.
