ABOUT Rin Shima / 01—0601First appearance and background
Rin appears in the original manga’s first chapter, “Mount Fuji and Cup Ramen.” Afro’s Laid-Back Camp began in the July issue of Manga Time Kirara Forward, released on May 23, 2015. A lakeside campsite and time spent alone establish her place in the story from the outset.
02Personality and appeal
Camping alone has its own pleasures for Rin. The official profiles connect her hobby to her grandfather and describe a reader who works part-time in a bookshop. Those quiet habits offer a useful way to read her character: she leaves room in the day simply to notice her surroundings.
03Story journey
[Spoilers] At Lake Motosu, Rin meets Nadeshiko, who has come to see Mount Fuji. The opening manga chapter brings them together over hot cup noodles, an encounter also depicted in anime episode 1. A simple meal and a shared view give their friendship its starting point.
04Relationships
[Spoilers] Rin does not join the Outdoor Activities Circle, yet she takes part in group camping with its members. The season-2 profile presents her love of solitude alongside her concern for friends. Her relationships make room for different rhythms, with solo trips and shared outings both worth enjoying.
05Versions and visual identity
The first anime’s official reference shows a high blue bun, face-framing strands and purple eyes. A thick cream-and-taupe patterned scarf wraps Rin’s neck above a teal coat. The camping outfit leaves small changes in expression easy to notice. Any AI illustrations on this page would be unofficial fan art.
06Fan interpretations
The June 2026 Yuru Fes brought the series back into an outdoor event in Yamanashi. Its official report records visiting fans, Rin’s costumed mascot and a stage appearance by her voice actor, Nao Toyama. This is recent evidence of audience engagement, without establishing an individual popularity ranking for Rin.
