ABOUT Yuri Makuwa / 01—06

01First appearance and background

Yuri appeared in the manga in 2021 as a teacher in the students’ school life. VIZ explicitly names Ms. Makuwa in its May 9, 2021 introduction to chapter 13; the series had launched that February. Those separate records establish her debut year. This profile retains her original adult teacher identity and leaves her numerical age unspecified.

02Personality and appeal

Her comedy lives in the gap between a composed face and racing thoughts. In the official cast interview, Mikako Komatsu describes her unstoppable internal chatter and the quick switches between inner and spoken voices. A quiet-looking teacher may already be holding an animated manga discussion in her head.

03Story journey

Spoilers: in anime episode 5, Yuri learns that her student Kukumi Ureshino posts Uron Mirage illustrations on Chitter. By episode 23 they are making a fan manga together, with Yuri struggling to develop the story. She also secretly follows Kukumi to an offline meeting out of concern, combining a teacher’s worries with a creator’s frustrations.

04Relationships

Relationship spoilers: Nico and Morihito are her students; Kukumi is also a fellow fan. Shueisha’s retrospective describes Yuri and Kukumi as Uron Mirage enthusiasts in chapter 34 and returns to their creative work in chapter 47. Their connection includes admiration and collaboration as well as the ordinary teacher–student relationship.

05Versions and visual identity

The official anime design has wavy shoulder-length brown hair, red rectangular glasses and reddish-brown eyes, with a taupe blazer, white blouse, brown knee-length skirt and low pumps. Episode 5 also shows a separate light-cardigan and dark V-neck outfit. Keep the costumes distinct and preserve her adult identity. Site illustrations are unofficial AI-generated fan art, not official designs or anime stills.

06Fan interpretations

Fan interpretation: Yuri offers a comic picture of carrying a serious love of manga into adult life. That is this page’s reading. In results announced in February 2026, WITCH WATCH topped d Anime Store’s 2025 user poll for anime that made viewers laugh. This measures the series. Yuri’s presence in the October 2025 season-two announcement is separate promotional visibility, not her own popularity rank.
