Girls awaken as Sailor Guardians to protect Earth, linking friendship and love to the Moon Kingdom.
Sailor Moon · Overview
01 / STORY
Naoko Takeuchi’s Sailor Moon manga began in 1991, and the TV anime followed in 1992. Usagi Tsukino meets the talking cat Luna, awakens as Sailor Moon and protects Earth with fellow Guardians. School life, friendship and romance intertwine with the Moon Kingdom’s past, a future family and the Outer Guardians.
Schoolgirls and Guardians
Usagi begins with fears, sleepiness and deep care for friends rather than effortless heroism. Ami contributes study and analysis, Rei shrine life, Makoto strength and practical skills, and Minako experience from her earlier Sailor V activities. Their team does not erase individual dreams or everyday lives.
Moon family: past and future
Usagi and Mamoru connect to Princess Serenity and Endymion in their past lives, and their bond carries into the future. Chibiusa comes from that future as their daughter, so apparent age does not determine family generation. Luna guides and supports Usagi; she is not Usagi’s mother.
Manga, 1990s anime and Crystal
The 1990s TV anime adds extensive daily-life and episodic material, changing pacing and some interactions from the manga. Crystal and its continuation films Eternal and Cosmos follow the manga arcs more directly. Check a profile’s version note instead of merging every adaptation into one undifferentiated timeline.
