Wolf Children

Mamoru Hosoda’s 2012 Wolf Children follows human mother Hana raising Yuki and Ame, who inherit their father’s wolf nature. Roughly thirteen years span an urban encounter, bereavement, rural work and the children’s separate choices. Yuki is the elder sister and Ame the younger brother; Hana does not transform. Fantasy takes root in repairing a house, farming, schooling and letting go.
